Spencer-A Shoppers Paradise
Since befor the days of Mayajal,Mocha and their ilk, it is Spencer plaza that is hailed as the symbol of Chennai's Cosmopolitan culture. Want to hang out with your friends at a cool place with money just enough to buy a parking ticket,Spencer plaza is the choice . Shoving differences in sex,money and religion apart, the place seems to almost coalesce people on their common want for fun.For the girls who want to look at stuff(but not want to buy them) to boys who want to look at girls (but not want to buy for them) Spencer offers it all.From crazy new arrivals of the Fashion world to anything outrageous you might imagine there are shops selling them and no necessity of guilt for not buying them.
What is the fun, window shopping in T.Nagar when you can actually walk into stores and try the stuff here, shops spread in three phases spreading over a million sq.ft. There are shops for every need of ours, from those selling the mundane to those selling exotic chocolates , and for those of us with ever hungry stomachs there are a vriety of eateries like Pizza Hut etc. And if you do decide to buy something you could always bargain,just choose the right shop. If you buy something at Music World and put your foot down that you want it at half the tagged price, you would probably be retained by the shop security but you can always bargain at the less fancier shops and definitely should at those selling clothes.
Sometimes the place just boggles an intelligent mind, there are people who spend tens of thousands of rupees on a single visit and those who spend time riding the escalators, but the place harbors both kinds.
You can always trust Spencer's for a meeting. At the entrance you can meet your friends, buy some steamed corn and walk in and out of shops, ride the escalators tens of times, check out the girls, let them check you out(if you beleive in miracles) and have fun till such time you realize you have been visiting the same shop thrice and then its time you come out of this cool place of fun into Chennai's hot sun.Just one word of caution, dont go looking into the unpopulated corners, you dont know what you might find(?);
